Your journey in the beauty industry
Hello everyone! My name is Olena, but most people know me by my Instagram username, Maniacmakeup. I’m from the city of Cossack glory—Zaporizhzhia.
I haven’t been working as a beauty professional for very long, but I started taking an interest in makeup and skincare as a teenager. Then I created a blog, and in 2019 I began studying to become a makeup artist. It seemed that all doors were open... But two months after receiving my professional diploma, the pandemic hit. Everything closed, including the salon where I rented a station. But I didn’t give up. I devoted a lot of time to marathons, online courses, and self-development, and welcomed clients at home. At the same time, I created makeup tutorials, and brands began to notice me. But then the full-scale invasion began, and I made a painful decision for myself...
Although I haven’t left the profession, I no longer work with clients, having devoted my time to blogging and content creation. And I believe I’m doing it successfully, because I often see messages like, “Oh, I can recognize your eye out of a thousand!” :)
Your top three personal work hacks
1. To apply foundation on dry or normal skin, I use brushes; for oily or problematic skin, I use a damp sponge.
2. The outline for red lipstick should always be perfect, but if something goes wrong, use concealer and a clean brush.
3. The same goes for even winged eyeliner—we create guidelines with concealer and then draw over them with eyeliner.
Advice for those who want to try working in this field
Keep working and don’t give up, even when it seems like nothing is working out. And keep learning! It’s important to gain experience and knowledge from other makeup artists.
How I discovered our brand
I first saw the ZIDIA brand two years ago in the Stories of star makeup artist Slava Chaika, and I thought, “Wow, is this a Ukrainian brand? I have to try it.” After that, the brand and I have been inseparable.
