Your journey in the beauty industry
Hi everyone!
My name is Kateryna Moroz, and I am 19 years old. However, because of my TikTok and Instagram usernames, people call me Katarina. It was my mistake, but the name has stuck, so I don’t mind :)
I am originally from the Kyiv region and currently live in Kolomyia, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
I never had any inspiration or, in general, any desire to become a makeup artist or makeup designer. At the same time, creativity had always been part of my life. Since childhood, I attended many creative classes and clubs. At school, I often won prizes for creative work, and in primary school I even became part of the book “Kyiv Region—All the Best for Children.”
A year before the decisive stage (2019), I hated cosmetics and thought spending money on them was simply pointless and wasteful. In the autumn of 2020, POVs began appearing on TikTok. Many people filmed scripted videos and added something of their own to them.
For some people, it was clothing; for others, locations. I wanted to add makeup to my videos because it was also starting to gain traction and momentum at the time. At the beginning of my journey, I had absolutely nothing—just one old palette with nine satin shades, mascara, an eyebrow pencil, and a desire to create something interesting. As a matter of principle, I didn’t want to take courses because I like achieving everything on my own, and at that time I had no idea what this pursuit would become for me.
In the winter of 2021, I started running my TikTok account, where I actively filmed a large number of makeup videos. However, the quality left much to be desired, so there were naturally no views or “popularity.” In the spring of the same year, I took part in makeup contests held on TikTok and, to my own surprise, took first place.
That’s when I realized that I definitely liked it. I enjoyed improving my skills, recreating interesting looks from my own imagination, and creating the vivid beauty people were only just beginning to talk about at the time. That summer, I continued participating in various competitions and marathons, but this time on Instagram. I took on every one. Winning wasn’t as important as participating and having the opportunity to create something new. With every victory, my skills improved, my makeup collection grew, and at one point I realized that I wanted to pursue this profession in the future.
Three years have passed since then, and my passion for creating has continued to grow. At the beginning, studying seemed boring and confusing, but over time I came to understand many of the aspects and directions that come with this profession, and I continue to study them with pleasure. Competitions and marathons became part of my life. I won competitions at the Academy and continued participating in Instagram contests and marathons in parallel. Cosmetic, contact lens, and jewelry brands began to notice me.
I have had—and continue to have—partnerships and exciting collaborations with bloggers. Then I realized that I wanted not only to create beautiful work but also to communicate my creativity to people beautifully. Without hesitation, I purchased and successfully completed Ruslana Buhriienko’s PROBeauty Video course, and I am still grateful for her support and the opportunity she gave me ❤️
Recently, people have often been writing to me asking me to film my course on graphic and creative makeup and, more generally, asking, “Where do I get my inspiration?” But that will come a little later)
Your top three personal work hacks
1. The main life hack is divided into three parts:
1. Imagine
2. Fix
3. Do
All these stages help with creating makeup looks and images in general. Without inspiration, sketches, and an idea of what the final work should look like, it rarely turns out as planned.
2. For graphic makeup, whether it's a wing or a large-scale drawing covering half or the entire face, when working with liners, apply a base in the form of a pencil or eyeshadow first, and only then add the liners. This way, the look will have shading and contrast, and everything won't crack terribly.
3. When creating a prop, don't be afraid to use new techniques. The main thing is to study their concept and visual style through Pinterest, Instagram life hacks, and so on. This can be a huge help in creating a particular look and envisioning it as a whole.
Advice for those who want to try themselves in this field
For those who want to try but are afraid. For those who want to but cannot. For those who work hard but don’t see results: you will succeed. Everyone encounters a choice along the way: to keep going or to stop here and now, right where they are. I don’t want to and won’t claim that this kind of challenge applies only to creative people, but if you’re not interested in anything besides makeup, that alone won’t give you the motivation or growth you need. You should always keep developing, improving your skills, taking courses, and participating in competitions even when the chance of winning is tiny. Without courage and the desire for something greater, for your personal goal, nothing will happen.
It all depends on you, and you shouldn’t be afraid of it. It can be difficult, and you may experience burnout and hatred toward your work, but that is a matter of your attitude toward makeup. You need to view your work and development not only through the lens of judgment, inexperience, and fear of failure, but also from a positive perspective—new opportunities, connections, exciting discoveries, improved skills, and growth. This will help you become more confident and not be afraid to say “yes” to your soul.
How I discovered our brand
I discovered the brand through my friend Maniacmakeup. At that time, I only followed her and dreamed of creating shots like that, and over time I began noticing the brand among other acquaintances as well. I’m very happy to have such talented, creative, and open-minded people around me who help me simply through their presence on my journey ❤️
